Day 1 of my 29 day Cleanse

Today I start a 29 cleanse (28 days + a day to start up with a complete juice cleanse of No. 9 only). Join me on the journey. I will log my days every morning and recap the day before.

As many of you know...Grounding Roots was created for one simple reason, to make me better. It grew from a simple attempt by Jedidiah (my husband) to juice for me daily, which then turned into a neighborhood friend request and then into a small business. Our new mission is to not only keep our family healthy but our community. We saw hope in this process...we still do.

The truth is I am still seeking the "answer" like everyone else...

To recap since my first post...I went through 6 months of intense antibiotic treatments, long days filled with exhaustion and alcohol and loads of laying around...bah-humbug. With a plan to come off slowly from the medications, I was feeling ready and feeling pretty good about my future. During this same time, I also started treating my daughter (holistically) for Lyme. It's been an exhausting 6 months to say the least. So I came off of the treatment ready to be cured, only to relapse 2 weeks later. I was devastated. I say to myself...this just my journey and I "own" it completely.

So here I am. 1 month out and still ready to keep fighting. In the first few days of relapse (and depression), I first read Bite Me by Ally Hilfiger, that stole my heart. Her journey mirrored my own and I felt inspired by the closing chapter of being your own healer and just stopping the noise around us (which I started to do these past 6 months by learning to slow down and saying "no"). It gave me hope in the natural approach. Next I read, Conversations with God, which set me up to be in the right mind space for healing. A life changing read for sure (if you are into that kinda thing). Lastly, after a solid year of multiple recommendations I finally picked up Medical Medium. This is where I am now. I read the book and I was so inspired to just jump in. It 100% supports what Jedidiah and I believed from day one “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” This book just gives a clearer focused path.

So here I go... I am journaling it here in hopes to inspire someone else who is dealing with the same thing or similar to just dive in and keep searching for your "answer" to living a healthy life filled with wakeful days and sleep-filled nights.

Here's my plan: (which is completely pulled from the Medical Mediums 28 day cleanse plan).

Day 1: One day - Juice fast with cucumber, apple and celery (using No. 9 because it's available quickly to me).

28 day cleanse: Only raw vegetables and fruits

Positive activities to help in the process:

    1. Rebound - 10 minutes a day of jumping on the trampoline...seriously!
    2. Infrared sauna 15-20 twice a week (I go to the Healing House)
    3. Bi-weekly Massage (drink 32 oz. of lemon juice water immediately afterwards)
    4. Epson salt bath (nightly)
    5. Restart our Garden - microgreens, leafy greens and plant fruit trees
    6. Meditations - bird listening and watching, sunset watching and bee watching, rock sourcing, stargazing (feel free to roll your eyes - I did when I reread this...but gonna do it).
    7. Morning mantra: I work for (Insert your Higher Source Here: God, The Divine, Mother Nature, etc...)

My Actual Cleanse Plan:

  • 6 AM: 16oz celery juice, on empty stomach, for gut health
  • 7:30 - Breakfast: smoothie - Aloe meat, bananas, berries, dates - consider adding papayas, mangoes or pears too
  • 9:30 AM snack: smoothie (left over) and GTL shot (for a pick me up)
  • 11:30 - Lunch: Salad with spinach, lettuce, and cucumbers as the base, and fruits of my choice. Dressing: half an avocado, cilantro and the juice of two oranges. For week 1, I plan to avoid avocado and just do lime juice and cilantro.
  • 1:30 - Afternoon Snack: Juice or Fruit & Veggies
  • 3:30 - Afternoon Snack: Juice or Fruit & Veggies (add honey as a treat)
  • 5:30 - Dinner: Example - Spinach soup: The book says to combine two bunches of spinach, three medium-to-large tomatoes (or an equal quantity of cherry or grape tomatoes), the juice of one orange, one stalk of celery, cilantro, and a clove of garlic in a blender.
  • 7:30 - Evening snack: apple or date
  • 9:00 - lemon water (play with adding ginger and turmeric slices)
  • 9:30 - Bed
